Solar on the UK's tallest BREEAM Outstanding commercial tower

8 Bishopsgate, London · April 2026

20,533 kWhgenerated per year
£5,240saved per year
£130,900lifetime saving
4,253 kgCO₂ offset / year

These are the figures estimated for this installation, not metered results. What a site actually saves depends on its electricity supply contract and how much of its own generation it uses during the working day.

A photovoltaic array on the 48th floor of a 50-storey landmark tower, with a bespoke frame engineered for high wind loads and full fire-system integration.

Installing solar 48 floors up on a 50-storey tower is an engineering problem before it is a generation one. The array sits on an outdoor terrace at 190m, where wind loads made a bespoke frame installation necessary rather than optional. Comera Energy were engaged to design, supply and install the photovoltaic system, which was integrated with the building’s fire safety systems.

8 Bishopsgate is a landmark 50-storey tower offering commercial offices, elevated outdoor terraces and a public viewing gallery at the top of the building, and it has become the tallest commercial building in the UK to achieve BREEAM Outstanding. Solar was a key component in reaching that rating.

The array produces around 20,533 kWh a year, saving around £5,240 annually and an estimated £130,900 across its lifetime, while offsetting 4,253 kg of CO₂ each year. It is a landmark reference for what rooftop solar can achieve on a high-rise commercial asset.
