The University of the West of England has an ongoing development plan as part of its 2030 strategy, and future sustainability is instrumental to that programme of work — with solar energy a key component. Comera Energy were engaged to design, supply and install the photovoltaic system to the W and T Blocks at Frenchay Campus, integrating the array with the buildings’ fire safety systems.

At this scale the numbers move into a different bracket. The installation generates around 264,971 kWh a year — enough to make a measurable dent in the campus’s grid demand — and offsets 56,938 kg of CO₂ annually.

Financially it returns roughly £67,600 a year and an estimated £1.69m across its lifetime, funding the university’s wider decarbonisation work while cutting operating costs on two of its busiest teaching blocks.
