A 5kW solar and battery system using 19 × 335W panels in an East/West layout across three roofs, on a Viridian in-roof mounting system fitted before the tiles.
We were asked to design and install a 5kW solar and battery system for a residential new build in Worcestershire. Nineteen 335W panels were set out in an East/West configuration spread across three separate roofs — an arrangement worked out to get the most from the available area, which was tight on any single elevation.
The panels sit on the Viridian in-roof mounting system, installed ahead of the roof tiling. That was the client’s choice: they felt an integrated array suited the look of the property better than one mounted over finished tiles.
One quirk of the build was a pair of consumer units, which complicated the metering the Puredrive battery module depends on. We fitted a second CT clamp — the sensor that measures power flowing in and out of the house — and reprogrammed a spare to follow it, so the battery reads the incoming supply correctly and the system works as one.
Across the year the installation generates around 4,533 kWh and saves the household around £1,160, with a lifetime saving of around £28,900.
